The Great Andamanese languages are one of two indigenous language families of the Andaman Islands, which are located in the Bay of Bengal and are now part of India.
I started research on the Great Andamanese languages in 2021. My current research program is geared toward the reconstruction of Proto-Great Andamanese, the internal classification of the family, and prospects for a genetic relationship with other languages/language families of Eurasia. To that end, I've developed a preliminary reconstruction of the stop consonants of Proto-Great Andamanese, the results of which were presented at the ULAB conference in Manchester in April of 2023. The next step of this project will involve the development of a publically accessible Great Andamanese lexical database (currently in progress) and the full comparative reconstruction of Proto-Great Andamanese segmental phonology.
